Product Information

Virus inactivation with UVivatec is an integral part of the orthogonal virus clearance technology platform of Sartorius Stedim Biotech. This orthogonal platform features virus inactivation, virus adsorption and virus filtration. UVivatec shows efficient (> 4 log) inactivation of both small non-enveloped viruses (20 nm) e.g. PPV, MVM and larger enveloped viruses (> 50 nm) e.g. MuLV from biopharmaceutical feed streams by UV-C irradiation (254 nm) while maintaining product integrity. Inactivation of viruses using the UVivatec technology is based on nucleic acid damage caused by UV-C irradiation. The novel helical reactor design provides uniform irradiation through efficient radial mixing based on dean vortices. The Sartorius UVivatec Lab System is a bench top system with irradiation intensity of 60 W/m2. It features a 9 W UV-C low-pressure mercury lamp (254 nm), a low pulsation peristaltic pump, operating flow rate with aqueous systems of 6-20 l/h, process control with touch-sensitive panel, UV-C sensor, pressure and temperature sensor, flow meter, serial interface for connection to Windows-PC, and a level sensor for leakage monitoring. This equipment is designed for efficient virus inactivation and offers precise process control with user-friendly interface.
